Gentle Exercises and Tai Chi at LCOC

Location: Lubec Community Outreach Center, 44 South St, Lubec
Beginning February 14 and every Friday moving forward, the LCOC welcomes Gentle Exercise with Denise Dalton-Rule. Classes are designed for older adults, or those wishing for slow and gentle exercise in a non-competitive environment.
Exercises will include stretching, strength training, balance and fun! They are designed to be enjoyed seated - standing will be offered as an option. Participants are encouraged to keep all movement within their range of motion and do only as much or as little as they are comfortable with. The class will be approximately 45 minutes, starting with warmup and ending with cool down exercises
“Most of us have read the science that tells us movement is key to keeping our bodies and minds healthy,” commented LCOC Director Jennifer Bristol. “But here in the Downeast, we have the added challenge of where to go to get in an exercise session with our peers without having to go outside! The LCOC is working to provide options for all of us.”
Denise Dalton-Rule earned her certificate for teaching Group Exercise for Older Adults in 2009 and taught in Lubec from 2010 until the pandemic halted in person classes and closed the local facilities. She also earned her Yoga teacher certificate in 2009 and taught yoga in Lubec for 12 years. She is registered with Yoga Alliance as E-RYT 200.
Denise lives in Lubec with her husband John, their dog Paquito, her African Grey Parrot, Henri and her cockatiel, Dani.
The LCOC is also happy to offer Tai Chi with Jeanne Backhaus. In February, Tai Chi is offered on Monday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 am. Attended by a dedicated group of practitioners, this class is suitable for beginners as well.
