Returning in 2025!
The return of the Two-Nation Event of the Bay of Fundy International Marathon

Lubec, Maine and Campobello, New Brunswick – June 22, 2025 — Two fishing villages that share an international border, and the Bay of Fundy are excited to announce the return of the two-country race, the Bay of Fundy International Marathon (BFIM) for Sunday, June 22, 2025.

The event features the best of Downeast Maine and Atlantic Maritimes. The committee is excited to be offering a race weekend including a marathon and a half-marathon benefiting the local communities. The committee is in the planning stages and will be sharing more as details are finalized.

The non-profit marathon committee is a mix of volunteers representing both Lubec and Campobello. Its meetings alternate between the two countries. The committee is looking for volunteers to fill coordinator roles. If interested, the committee meets every Tuesday, 6:00-7:30 p.m. eastern/7:00-8:30 p.m. Atlantic, in-person and visa Zoom online. Remote and rural marathon, in one of America’s and Canada’s most quiet corners. The two beautiful places — Lubec, Maine and Campobello Island, New Brunswick, — share shorelines, clean air, cool temperatures in June and lighthouses that have guided the way for mariners for generations. Now comes the return of marathoners. BFIM, held annually from 2013 to 2019 was named as one of the 50 most loved and most talked about marathons in the USA (by Trip Advisor); a “bucket list” marathon – one “every Canadian runner should aim to do in their lifetime” (by Canadian Race Guide); and a “small town wonder” (by Runner’s World). BFIM is one of only three marathons to cross the international border between Canada and the USA.

Starting at the most easterly point in the USA, West Quoddy Lighthouse, the rolling Marathon course offers miles of water and harbor views. Crossing from the International border by way of the FDR Memorial Bridge and Lubec Narrows, the course takes runners past the FDR Summer Home in Roosevelt Campobello International Park. Traversing stunning Campobello Island over to Head Harbor Light, the course then retraces its steps back across the bridge to finish along Water Street in the heart of Lubec.
